WUIS Bedrock 66 Live! Partners with Downtown Springfield, Inc. and Isringhausen Motors to present the Amaranth Apple Food and Music Festival, July 14 and 15 in downtown Springfield.

The renamed “Taste” event pays tribute to Springfield native son Vachel Lindsay and his 1920 utopian novel The Golden Book of Springfield. The amaranth apple is a mystical fruit that grows from the magical seeds planted by Johnny Appleseed. One bite of the amaranth apple and you are filled with the love of eternal beauty. Restaurants from across the city will serve their specialties during this two day event that begins at 6 pm on Friday and ends at midnight on Saturday night.

This year’s Saturday music headliner is Matthew Sweet, whose 1991 album “Girlfriend” is heralded as one of the decade’s most critically acclaimed albums and is known for such hits as “Girlfriend,” “Ugly Truth,” “Sick of Myself,” and “Time Capsule.” Sweet is set to release his first new lp since 2011’s Modern Art this year.
